Altizer Lawn & Landscape handles lawn care, drainage and hardscaping for homes in Lakeside, the Henrico County neighborhood just north of the Richmond city line. Lakeside sits inside the area our crews already cover in Henrico.
Some customers want a crew on a regular mowing and cleanup schedule. Others call about one project, like water standing in the backyard after rain or a patio they have wanted for years. Before we price anything, we look at your yard, the soil and how water moves across it. The estimate is free.

Lakeside yards often sit on dense clay, so a lot of our work starts with soil and water, not plants. If water sits against a foundation or a lawn stays soggy for days, we fix the grade or put in a French drain before seeding or sodding. That way the new grass does not wash out or rot.
On the maintenance side, we mow, edge and blow off hard surfaces. We also handle leaf removal in the fall and schedule aeration and overseeding in early fall, when cool season grass in central Virginia takes seed well.
Lakeside is an unincorporated community in Henrico County, just north of the Richmond city line. Much of it runs along Lakeside Avenue, with Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden on the avenue and Bryan Park close by. [add: confirmed origin of the Lakeside name]. Many yards here are established lots with mature shade trees, older foundation plantings and lawns that have been in place for decades.
Older lots bring their own problems. We often see thin turf under big oaks, heavy clay that holds water after a storm, low spots near foundations and leaf drop that piles up every fall. [add: a real Lakeside project or street the crew has worked on, if the client can share one].
We start by walking the yard with you. We look at where water goes during a storm, where grass is thin, which beds have grown past the house and how much sun each part of the lawn gets.
If you have more than one project in mind, we can price them separately. That way you can handle an urgent drainage fix now and plan a patio for later.
Fertilization and weed control can be added to the schedule. [add: how often fertilization and weed control visits happen on a typical Lakeside plan]
Many Lakeside homes still have the foundation shrubs that went in when the house was built. Over the years, boxwoods, hollies and azaleas grow over windows and walkways, and ivy or brush creeps in from the property line.
We trim shrubs back to a manageable size and take out the ones that are dead or too far gone. We also clear brush along fences and reset beds with clean edges and mulch. If you want new plants, we can suggest ones that handle Henrico clay and summer heat.
Shady lawns are common in Lakeside because of the old trees. Grass struggles under a heavy canopy. In those spots we may suggest a shade tolerant fescue blend, wider mulch beds or a small paver patio where turf will not take.
For water problems near Upham Brook or anywhere the ground stays wet, we start with downspouts, grading and low spots. Where runoff has nowhere to go, we can build a rain garden that holds the water and lets it soak in.
