Most lawns in Richmond and the surrounding counties are tall fescue. This cool-season grass stays green most of the year but struggles in the July and August heat. Some older yards and sunny slopes are Bermuda or zoysia instead. Those green up in late spring and turn tan after the first hard frost.
We set mowing height and feeding around the grass you actually have. For fescue, that means mowing at 3 to 4 inches through summer so the blades shade the roots and hold moisture.
Soil matters just as much. Richmond sits on the fall line. Yards west of the city often have heavy red clay that packs down hard. Lawns toward the East End and eastern Henrico tend to be sandier and dry out faster. We check which one you have on the first visit.
People in Richmond search for the same few answers. Is October too late to mow? How much does a couple of hours of yard work cost? What sets lawn care apart from landscaping?
Lawn care is the steady upkeep of turf: mowing, feeding, and weed control. Landscaping is design and building, like new beds or planting. Many yards need both, but they are separate jobs with separate costs.
Timing and price depend on the lawn itself. A short look at the property gives a more honest answer than any general number. The FAQ below covers the most common questions.
We work in Richmond and the towns around it. That includes Lakeside, Glen Allen, Short Pump, Ashland, Henrico, and Mechanicsville, plus Hayes, Newell, Nokomis, and Storm Lake.
The approach does not change from one town to the next. Every lawn gets the same core work: mowing, feeding, and weed control, adjusted for the grass and soil on that property. A yard in Short Pump is treated the same way as a yard in Ashland.

Fescue lawns in central Virginia follow a different calendar from the one many national lawn programs assume. This is roughly how we plan a season:
We take care of lawns in Richmond’s East End and across Henrico, Mechanicsville, Glen Allen, Short Pump, Lakeside, Ashland and Hanover. Visits are scheduled [add: mowing frequency, such as weekly or every other week, and the months the mowing season runs].
Some lawns need more than routine care. If a yard is too far gone to fix with seed, we handle sod installation and start fresh. Our landscape maintenance crews take care of beds and shrubs, so one company looks after the whole property.
Drainage and hardscaping are covered under the rest of our services. Every lawn starts with a free estimate, so you know what the work involves before anything is scheduled.
